Leadership Concepts
Participants will be introduced to the foundational aspects of leadership concepts, styles, and skills. The lesson will teach newly promoted supervisors, already established supervisors who could use just a little refresher, and those aspiring to become a supervisor, how to apply already existing skills in intentional ways to be able to hit the ground running as an effective leader on day one.
This curriculum has been reviewed by certified servant leadership educators, and consists of two, 1/2 day sessions. The material leans into drawing on existing knowledge and skills, and recognizing how to adapt them from front-line duties into leadership roles. It involves a PowerPoint, of course, lecture along with it, a lot of discussion throughout the full eight hours, demonstrations, activities, and role plays.
Key Takeaways:
- Transitioning From Peer to Supervisor
- Leadership Styles
- Effective Communication Skills
- Staff Engagement
Leadership Development Series

A twelve-month program designed to follow Leadership Concepts. This curriculum consists of monthly modules, ongoing article reviews, journaling, and a final presentation at the end from each participant. Most modules involve a lecture-type presentation, while also bringing in group involvement, and some modules involve the use of video to add variance to the presentation style. Each module has a supplemental reading list to help keep the information fresh and in the front of participant’s minds between sessions.
Key Takeaways:
- Foundational Leadership Principles
- Behavioral Science
- Ongoing Leadership Development
- Guided Practice

Mentoring & Coaching
Without the benefit of leadership development throughout my personal journey, I’ve had to make up a lot as I went along, and also learn through trial and error. And there have been a lot of errors. Like, a lot. Since then, I’ve made it my mission to correct those mistakes and try to help my team not fall into the mistakes I made. The important thing is that I’ve learned from those errors, and tried not to repeat them. I’ve been fortunate to provide mentoring services to APPA’s ninth Leadership Institute, and look forward to developing more partnerships. Let’s work together so you can learn from my mistakes!
